Our Story
How it came to be…
It all began in 1971 when Dave Loewen and his wife were looking for a place to raise their young family. Although they lived in Winnipeg at the time, they wanted their children to grow up in the countryside where they would develop an appreciation for a full day’s work and come to understand how to build a life by hand.
Although the property itself wasn’t listed on the market at the time, Dave and his family were fortunate enough to make an offer on it by what could only be described as divine intervention. Shortly after getting possession of the ranch, Dave and his family developed the business and continued being entrepreneurial at every turn by finding markets for trailers, gates, feeders, waterers, and much more. However, at their core, they always had an affinity for horses.
Dave and Phyllis at Miracle Ranch
For over 50 years, Dave operated Miracle Ranch with the help of his daughter Phyllis. Over the years, they took countless people on trail rides, provided riding lessons to people of all ages, and hosted birthday parties for various groups. But after operating the ranch 7 days per week for so many years, Dave and Phyllis were ready to start the next chapter of their lives and began searching for someone to take over the ranch. A few years later, they were delighted to find just the right people.
In June 2022, a dedicated Winnipeg group of horse enthusiasts assumed management of Miracle Ranch — committing to build on the ranch’s carefully established legacy through strategic hiring, marketing, and innovation. As we continue to grow and evolve, we’re excited to open the next chapter with the arrival of Sagehill Stables at our grounds.
After many meaningful years at their Waverley Street location, Sagehill Stables will be relocating to Miracle Ranch at the end of December. Sagehill has long been a vibrant equestrian hub offering a diverse suite of programming that spans riding lessons, youth and adult camps, horse-leasing, coaching development, and equine-assisted wellness.
Guided by their “Ride. Learn. Heal.” philosophy, Sagehill brings a shared belief in the power of horses to promote growth, empathy, confidence, and community — especially through inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
By joining forces under the Miracle Ranch umbrella, we’re building something stronger together: a welcoming, well-equipped facility where horses and people alike can thrive, where new friendships and memories are made, and where the heart of our shared mission — community, care, learning and growth — beats stronger than ever.
We’re honoured to carry forward both the legacy of Miracle Ranch and the spirit of Sagehill Stables — now united under one roof.
